My work is primarily that of a figurative painter offering “suggestive” narratives that hopefully engage the viewer both visually and emotionally. I’m not necessarily telling a particular tale, either mine or the viewers, but rather I’m pursuing imagery which I find compelling in it’s oddness or in it’s metaphorical potential. I’m inspired by particular moments that feel loaded with meaning and often find myself combing through home videos and photographs to find visual references for those moments. I am currently exploring themes of history, isolation, mans place in nature, frontiers, borders, technological evolution, memory, masculinity, folklore, and longing. The paintings I'm making incorporate figurative imagery along side abstract elements, which creates a strange blend of real space and flattened color fields. The paintings rely primarily on the expressive application of either oil or acrylic paints, with an emphasis on gestural mark making.
